What is the 10th Mountain Division?

The 10th Mountain Division, an elite unit of the United States Army, was established during World War II with a specific focus on mountain warfare. Trained in the rugged terrain of Camp Hale, Colorado, the division became renowned for its expertise in alpine and winter combat. Their rigorous training in the Colorado Rockies prepared them for critical battles in the Italian Alps, where they played a pivotal role in the Allied victory. Post-war, many veterans of the 10th Mountain Division significantly contributed to the development of the ski industry in Colorado, leaving a lasting legacy on both the military and recreational landscapes of the region.
